| In 1690 a Nicholas Puxty sold Towngate, then part of the property, to his brother-in-law, Richard Comber. By him and his son the Towngate property, as it had then come to be called, was further increased by the purchase of Shotinghurst, Earlye, and the Dupleck's farm of 96 A. Richard Comber died in 1763, leaving his real estate to his sister Mary's son, Benjamin Newington |

| Richard Comber of Towngate, died possessed of Earlye in 1763, having bought it from G. Lockyer. From him it went to a nephew, Benjamin Newington, then to Baker of Hightown, on his marriage with Benjamin Newington's niece, and back by exchange of other property to Newington of Towngate |
