| 1555 to 1578 | History | Faircrouch | Wace's Wadhurst | ||
| The Subsidy Rolls of 1555 and 1578, however, show a Barham assessed for "Fayererouche," probably for the land and iron works. | |||||
| 1611 | History | Faircrouch | Wace's Wadhurst | ||
| The property which gave its name to this part of the parish cannot have been the house now called Faircrouch, the greater part of which dates only from the middle of last Century. This stands certainly on the site of what once was "one of the finest houses in the neighbourhood." But that takes us no further back than 1611 when a London Merchant named Edwardes built it. | |||||
| 1692 | History | Faircrouch | Wace's Wadhurst | ||
| Edwardes's daughter, Susan, married Giles Strangways of Melbury Sampford, in Dorset. Giles Strangways son succeeded to Faircrouch, but had to sell it to Peter Gott, Receiver General for Sussex. Gott lived there till 1692 and then sold it to William Benge. | |||||
| 1700 to 1800 | History | Faircrouch | Wace's Wadhurst | ||
| In the next 100 years Faircrouch passed through the hands of eight persons. The last were two brothers named Beven, who farmed the land for several years, but in 1810 sold it to James Bellamy of a Wisbeach firm of Solicitors, who were somehow concerned in the disposal of several other old Wadhurst properties | |||||
